Here I’m unboxing Allbirds Tree Runners, sustainable footwear with a carbon footprint of just 4.52 kg CO2e. Made from eucalyptus tree fibre, sugarcane-based green EVA, castor bean oil-based insole foam and shoe laces made from recycled plastic bottles.
Allbirds aim to replace petroleum-based synthetic materials with natural alternatives whenever they can. If they can’t find suitable alternatives, they look to invent their own, such as SweetFoam®, their shoe sole material derived from the world’s first carbon negative green EVA.
